Audubon Insectarium

-Video by Creston Hill

For those of you who like me love entomology, this place is amazing. They have an impressive collection of colorful, stinging, camoflauged insects and a butterfly garden where the butterflies land on you. My favourite part was the leaf-cutter ant colony, twas a crazy microcosm of organization. Factoid: Female praying mantis and black widow eat the male less than 15% of the time. When they do it’s because the males are smaller and they aren’t making a distinction between a male of their own spiecies and any other prey insect. Male mantis can still mate after their head is bitten off by the female. In fact he tries to mate more avidly post-decapitation and succeeds more often.
